Rachmaninoff Boosey and Hawkes

Post by Pfsunmin »

Hi, this is my first time posting on the forums page!

I have some Rachmaninoff Piano works scans published by Boosey and Hawkes.
Here is the list of the works that I have:

- Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 Piano Reduction
- Etude-Tableaux Op. 33
- Piano Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor, Op. 36 (Original & Revised Edition)
- Etude-Tableaux Op. 39
- Variations on the theme of Corelli, Op. 42
- Rhapsody on the theme of Paganini, Op. 43 Piano Reduction

I'm not sure whether Boosey's publications of these works are in the public domain in Canada because the publisher said it's an Authentic Edition, which has a different meaning from Urtext or Critical Edition.

Also, it is difficult for me to determine the status since they don't mention the name of the editor of the publications and provide various years of copyright information in the publisher's note (kind of preface thing) and the lower section of the first page in the score.

I'm not sure if it matters in terms of copyright law or something similar because most of them were edited and corrected from the first edition by Gutheil or by using the original plate from it, which is in the public domain in Canada.

Thank you so much!
