category search

Post by 2nd_astronaut »

I miss a search category "instrument". It took me several tries to find organ scores: I now use "browse by genre", then "Category:Instrumental (chamber)", then I have to browse "Category:Piece for other keyboards" for Non-Sonata pieces and "Category:Sonata (other)" for Sonatas...

Search criteria composer (is implemented) and instrument (is missing) are the two esseantial ones for me, the rest is luxury...

Besides that, congratulations for the very successful site!

Well the problem is that an instrument search is not possible as no instrument field is adequately used. The instrumentation field exists, but is only occasionally filled in (I'm guilty too). Specific instrumentation categories hence don't exist too. But you're right. It would be good. (except the fulltext search, that's no luxury). But currently we simply don't have the time at the moment...

One of the projects I've been wanting to do is to implement one of those standard library catalogues which would give both instrumental and piece type searches... the problem is with the amount of work required for the entry of the entire catalogue, as well as whether it is practical to make every submitter into a music librarian (because some of those categories are quite ambiguous)...

Can I second the above...I would love to be able to search for "flute."
