Joaquin Rodrigo, Agustín Barrios Mangoré, or anyone

Post by 8thnote »

In general I would like to request more classical guitar works. The works on imslp are good but lack in range of composers. I would be nice to see stuff by Barrios, Rodrigo, more from Tarrega, Albeniz, and just other works. There are alot of pieces that are public domain works such as Afro-Cuban Lullaby, Romanza, and every Bach, or Mozart transcription for guitar. To start I would like to request Joaquin Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez and Fantasia para un Gentilhombre. I would also like to see some Barrios on here such as La Catedral and Preludio.

While most of those are fine (composers), the only one we cannot allow on the site is Rodrigo since he died only in 1999, sadly. As you know, the site is hosted in Canada and so we follow Canadian copyright law (review the copyright page for more info). On a happier note, come 1 January 2010, Villa-Lobos will be public domain in Canada. This means we can accept any of his compositions so long as they were published in his lifetime.

Although I don't know the guitar literature, I wouldn't assume that every transcription of works by Bach and Mozart (and other PD composers) is public domain.

That would depend on who wrote the transcription.
