On another thread I made a wish, while admiring homerdundas' seemingly bottomless supply of obscure scores...

...or the full score of "Alfonso & Estrella"?

He's uploaded it!!! It's really there!

After I've tried to find it for ... how many years???

This is the best early birthday present I can imagine! Thank you so much - at this rate we will soon be seeing the completion of Schubert's works listed under "Featured Scores." We have the complete Bach, Brahms and Handel - let's make Schubert the next completed composer.

(I have Kalmus yellow study scores of Fierrabras, Die Freunde von Salamanka and Die Verschworenen, but for the foreseeable future will probably be so busy with choir stuff that scanning will be a distant memory. Anybody else who has access to any of the Schubert stage works - scan and upload away.)

Joyous occasion indeed. But aldona, I noticed that we still don't even have the complete set of symphonies in full score. Surely it would be better to focus on these before anything else? I was shocked and amazed to find out that we have some of the largest Schubert collection anywhere, yet only 2 of the full scores of symphonies!

I would say that would have the complete scans of a composer only when we have all the SCORES as well as the individual PARTS of all the pieces the composer wrote. Wouldn't you all agree?

Well, the words in the acronym IMSLP specify "score," but not "parts." Therefore, a composer's works could be called complete in this venue if all the scores alone were uploaded.

I think the priority would be scores first, then parts. If you have the score it is possible (although time consuming) to extract the parts.

Based on the Bach/Brahms/Handel that we have so far, my idea of "complete composer" was the complete set of an official published collection of their works (e.g. the Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe or the Ausgabe der Deutschen Händelgesellschaft). Thus, the aim would be to acquire scans of the entire Breitkopf & Härtel "Kritische durchgesehene Gesamtausgabe". If you visit the Schubert page, you will see that we are already well on our way.

Homerdundas continues to be in fine form and has just uploaded Schubert's Mass No.5. Truly, the man is a legend and deserves some kind of "Most Valuable Contributor of the Year" award.

At this rate, we will have all of the Schubert scores by the end of the year.

I agree with Lyle and aldona that having the scores is the most important thing. Of course, if we could recruit some orchestra librarians to scan parts then that would be great.

Just noticed that "Alfonso & Estrella" has been up for less than 24 hours and it has already been accessed 325 times.

Looks like I wasn't the only Schubert enthusiast hanging out for the score...

Now what can we do to get the symphonies up? These are absolutely critical to have, in my opinion.

Hmm...the dover reprints only extend down to No. 4, I beleive...we need a person with access to a music library.

I wrote this week on another thread that my library has the hardbound reprint of the Schubert works.

Barring something else that would take precedence, I could try to scan some things from that set after Thanksgiving weekend. This weekend, however, I plan to be occupied with Rimsky's edition of Dargomyzhsky's The Stone Guest, Kalinnikov's 1st Symphony, and possibly Paliashvili's Abesalom da Eteri -- if that gets an "okay" on the thread for "Copyright Status Requests."
