There were some discussions over the last weeks about some of our members have access to big CD collections (CDSM series, such as Orchestra Musicians' etc) which are PD in America, but PDF files in these entries are "infected" with logos, which must be removed.
In order for allow as many contributors to work on these PDF files as possible, we really need to set up FTP servers which people owning such "infected" collections can upload to, then *any* contributors (only registered contributors can download) can simply download the "infected" stuff, strip the logos and upload the processed PDF as usual.
Since it takes much less time (and costs nearly nothing) to process an existing PDF file than to manually scan scores. Setting the FTP server should take *urgent* priority for us to tap these resources.
Moreover, most orchestral items in our collection do not have parts, which make these items unplayable by a real orchestra. If we take the first step - setting up the FTP servers, then we can upload all the necessary orchestral parts and dramatically improve the usabality of IMSLP, only at the cost of setting up and running the FTP servers!!!!
Finally, since the CDSM stuff are PD in USA and not necessary (although nearly all would be) PD in other countries, I think the servers should be set in USA.
And could you please contact Feldmahler about this issue?
