Dvorak's opera Dimitrij

Post by Contratrombone64 »

This is obscure, I know, but does anyone have access to the full score for this work?

I've now written to a couple of Czech opera companies (in particular their music departments) and no reply.

This saddens me, deeply. Such a wonderfully (yes flawed) work.

It seems, only the Ouverture and a Piano reduction/vocal score was ever published (1886).
A score for the Ouverture is available from Musikedition Höflich in reprint.

The complete material (including full score): this is rental only, see http://d-nb.info/400097672
Original publisher is Dilia Prag http://www.dilia.cz. Here in Germany its distributed by Alkor/Bärenreiter. They might be willing to send you a perusal score.

Dear kalliwoda - thank you so much for your assistance. I do own a vocal score (though it's not really anything like the recent Czech Philharmonic recording I own).

I am in possession of a copy of a full score of this opera now. I must scan it, I worry the paper will yellow before too long. I'm not sure if it is in PD, have sent message to admin here regarding it recently.

Does the score have any additions made to it, like editors in the music? Or is it urtext? If it is urtext, was the score published at least 25 years ago (before 1989)? This would make the score public domain probably in Canada, maybe in the EU too, not sure.

If you can, provide all the identifying details about the edition and the things Sallen mentioned so we can do a bit of research.

It'd be good to have the early editions of vocal scores of operas like Cert a Katja and Armida, too (pub. 1908 & 1921 iirc) :) (just looked at the later (1950s?), Orbis vocal score of the former...)

Sorry, I was unable to add the little accents/hooks as I don't have a Czech font, strangely!
