Jacques Offenbach. cellist

Jacques Offenbach was a virtuoso cellist. Early in his career, he composed a considerable amount of music for cello. Aside from several Duo's for 2 cellos, IMSLP has none.

Recently, his Concerto militaire for cello and orchestra -- a work of utterly stupefying virtuosity -- was recorded. Offenbach also wrote a Concerto rondo for cello and orchestra. WHat a coup it would be for IMSLP to locate and post the original scores for these two concerti.

His other works for cello (presumably with piano) include:

It would be great for cellists everywhere to dig up, scan and post these items on IMSLP.

1996 is ''recently''?

The only real hope for the concerti would be copies of the manuscript, they were never published (or at least not any time where they'd be PD).

Also the whole issue with the those two pieces is confusing -- one of the recordings claims that the Concerto-Rondo is the third movement, and uses it for its recording (slightly different from the other two recordiings) but gives no mention of where the third movement used in the other two recordings comes from. There's also the 'original' version of the middle movement.

One other piece, a Musette/Air de Ballet, is on IMSLP in the cello/pf version, but it was originally for cello/orchestra.

Almost all these are present on http://catalogue.bnf.fr but unfortunately they didn't join http://gallica.bnf.fr/ yet. In such a case, BNF as elaborated a new procedure: http://www.amisbnf.org/books.html You can "adopt" a score in the sense that it will be scanned and join Gallica after you've paid a fee!

@ coulonnus: I´m interested in the 6 symphonies op.1 by Vaclav Pichl, which are at BnF. Have you an idea, what´s the fee for this collection and when it will be avaible after adapting it? Or ist better to buy a pdf, i think for 45 € plus tax ?

Thank you for the link with the examples. That seems very expensive, the tax redution is not valid for me, being in Germany. If i see that right, one can order a pdf copy for

Fill the form at Acheter une reproduction. About 3 weeks after you've paid what they ask you, they send you a email with an URL and a code and you fetch your reproduction in pdf format. Afterwards sometimes they make the score available on Gallica because the scanning job has been done. The 45 € are only if the .75 €*nb of pages exceeds 45€. Thank you very much for your replies, good to know these details. In this special case with the Pichl symphonies i just found another solution. Because i´m mainly interested
in the No.6, i ´m going to order an e-book from BSB with a manuscript copy of this symphony.
