Hadley's Merlin and Vivian

Post by steltz »

This work (http://imslp.org/wiki/Merlin_and_Vivian ... MSLP168963) has been uploaded, but is difficult to tag.

Hadley himself says it is a "lyric drama". Grove lists it under "Vocal", WorldCat lists it as a "Secular chorus", another (questionably scholarly) website lists it as an opera.

A dramatic work with lots of emphasis on chorus would surely be an oratorio? Unless this work actually gets staged with sets, etc., in which case it's a opera.

Does anyone know anything about how this work is done?

As it happens we already have a category for "lyric dramas" (which is a subset of operas), so I'd simply go with that.
