Hi,
I'm a pianist who recently found 2 excellent violinists who wish to perform with me at a classy wine/piano bar. This was completely unexpected due to the rarity of culture, class, and sophistication in northeastern Florida, U.S. My issue is finding pieces for us to play! Now, I'm fully aware that I can easily grab some String Quartets and play the cello/viola parts on the piano, but I have a slight problem with on-the-fly alto-clef reading. I unfortunately don't have the time to typeset the parts myself. Also, parts written for strings frequently don't come across as orginally intended when performed on the piano.
I have found the Beethoven String Quartets with arrangements for 4-hand piano, which is good because then I can provide my violinists with their parts and then just play the secondo part of the piano arrangement, throwing in a little extra when neccessary. However, these are the only string quartets I found which have a 4-hand piano arrangement. We can't just play Beethoven the whole time. Though I did find one Mozart work page (KV 144) which we can use as well.
Does anyone know of any composers who have written pieces actually intended for 2 violins and 1 piano? Though I prefer to focus on baroque/classical, we definitely wish to have a decent repertoire of late romantic and modern pieces as well.
Or even if people know of string quartets from obscure composers, which may have some piano arrangements here? Even with no piano arrangement, I still will consider a piece here and there because if something really catches my eye, I'll transpose the alto clef. I just can't do it for everything we play.
Your advice, comments, and assistance is welcome! Thanks
