Christmas carol: Anonymous?

Post by coulonnus »

Another question about a WIMA score: http://icking-music-archive.org/scores/ ... lestne.pdf
Is it really anonymous? Is it already present in imslp: Composers: Anonymous with a title in another language?

I won't upload that one because potentially copyrighted. See the topic Copyright status of modern composers on WIMA in the Copyright Status Requests forum.

The melody itself is at least as old as Faure, who arranged it for voice and piano (see IMSLP link below), so the melody is PD. The arrangement/harmonization from icking dates from 2002 however. Feel free to use the Faure arrangement as you please.

Thanks. It will be up to the user to choose the Fauré arrangement. But why do you recommend the Erato site instead of that present on imslp? http://imslp.org/wiki/Il_est_n%C3%A9_le ... ,_Gabriel)
They are the same!

Because the erato link was where the PDF file that you get when you press the down-arrow link in the IMSLP listing comes from. Didn't actually notice that it wasn't IMSLP directly.
