Here's what's available:

Music Masters, ed. Howard K. Wolf: can't find any dates on Mr. Wolf, but there are lots of recent publications, so he's probably still alive.

Amadeus Verlag, ed. Bernhard Pauler: published 2006, again, a recent publication, so Mr. Pauler is probably still alive.

Kneusslin edition, forward by Ernst Hess: they have issued a copyright notice of 1960 on this, which would make it public domain (probably without the forward) in 2011. My university library has this edition. It's not that easy to read, but if it's the first one into PD, then that's the one that should get posted (next year).

There is another one, which the International Clarinet Association has in its archives. They will lend to members, but also supply photocopies if music is in the public domain. They have a 1954 Ricordi edition, and the editor was Simeon Bellison, who died in 1953. This must have been one of the last things he edited. Here's the catch: it may not be public domain in the US, so they can lend to you, but you wouldn't be able to post something PD in Canada by uploading it from the States. First, one has to establish how long Bellison would be protected as an editor.

Any help?

One more suggestion:

There is the first print at the Bavarian State Library:
QUATUOR pour Clarinette, Violon, Alto et Violoncelle composé par Bernard Crusell, Musicien de la Chambre de S. M. le Roi de Suede. Oe. II, Peters, 1812, plate 967
You could ask if it is possible to speed up digitization for this title: benutzung@bsb-muenchen.de

Kneusslin 1960 is a photographic reproduction of this original printing (search http://opac.nebis.ch/F), so it is under no copyright whatever (just omit the introduction when downloading...)

The reprint would explain why it's not so easy to read! I won't be able to scan this in the near future, but if someone (Allegroamabile?) is going to ask the Bavarian State Library to digitize, perhaps they also have the op.4 and op.7 quartets? That's the full set. Op.4 is also really nice. :D

I recently came across an original score (very pretty piano tune) with an inscription that was barely audible but definitely had the word 'bellison'. After googling for some time I came across this forum and wonder if it is the same 'bellison'! The inscription seemed to say 'bellison tallison punkyshious hillmithenus' and I am querying if there is a connection somehow with the Bellison that you are referring to as I cannot find anything else on the net that has any relevance to this name anywhere. It is possibly a long shot but perhaps a nick name or something? hmmm...there are certainly not many Bellison's around at any rate.

Almost certainly not.

In the 1950s I doubt they had the word "punkyshious".

Thank you for responding so promptly...I think you may have touched upon a vital piece of evidence that may well assist me in my detective work !! I had not thought that a linguistical study of the word punkyshious may actually reveal more about the origin of my discovered score than the more commonly used google search. I will begin my investigations with renewed vigor and report back sir!!
