Taneyev (or Taneev) orchestral works?

Post by steltz »

Any chance anyone has orchestral works by Sergey Ivanovich Taneyev? Lots of these are wonderful works, worthy of more exposure.

Suggested titles:

Adagio in C (1875, but apparently not published till 1950, by Muzgiz)
Canzona (1883) for clarinet and strings, can also be done by cello

Those are my favorites so far, but there is also the Overture (1889) and Entr'acte (1894) from Oresteia, Overture on a Russian Theme (1882), Cantata on Pushkin's Exegi Monumentum (1880), and Overture in D minor (1875).

I have full score of the overture "Oresteia" somewhere -- but I don't know right now where it is.

By the way, that "Oresteia" overture does not belong to the opera. It is a self-contained concert work using some themes from the opera (it's much too long to be serve as an opera overture, anyway.) The opera itself has its own short orchestral introduction (look at the piano-vocal score on IMSLP).

It was the new Naxos CD! I bought it because I have never ever been able to find a recording of the clarinet work, just the cello transcription. Gorgeous stuff!!
