Petrucci Library Press Suggestion Box

Post by Carolus »

This thread is to serve as an ongoing 'suggestion box' of titles people would like to see available in print from Petrucci Library Press. Ideally, we should limit these titles to those that are public domain worldwide, as the goal is to make a given item as widely available as possible for a very reasonable price. Perlnerd666 has already recommended the SNKLHU edition of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, Op.72. This title is definitely under serious consideration.

Are these suggested titles for those not already widely reprinted by Dover/Kalmus?

Any PLP that originates in a government-printed publication, like the Czech Dvorak edition and the Soviet Tchaikovsky edition, should, if at all possible, include both the introductory material and the editor's critical reports. While few people will find these of use, for those who do want this information there's no other way to get it.

Yes, though Kalmus (the real Kalmus) is not really very inexpensive, which is not surprising as they print the full scores at 10 x 13 inches. Kalmus/Alfred has been taking a lot of things out of their catalog. Dover has been known to do the same now and again.

I would suggest that you change "PLP" in the title of this thread to "Petrucci Library Press" so that the casual reader will at least get a better idea at a glance as to what the thread is about.

(As you can probably tell, I have a strong aversion to the use of abbreviations, acronymns, etc., in an open forum that is supposed to be welcoming to new readers and participants. )

It's much harder to verify copright status on these, as they are very possibly still copyright...so we really try not to allow them...sorry.

Not a bit. Lyle's point is a good one. I may be used to thinking of it as 'PLP' but the abbreviation can be confusing to those not familiar.
