Gershwin - Porgy and Bess

Post by KG »

Hi there - does anyone have the full orchestral score of Porgy and Bess available? I've only been able to find vocal scores. I don't need the entire opera - the introduction/first scene would be enough. (I don't think there's any PD issues but let me know if there is.)

Thanks!

Gershwin's pieces are still in copyright (for the most part).

The problem with Porgy and Bess lies not with the composer, who died in 1937, but with the authors (both of the original story and the libretto):

DuBose Heyward (1885-1940)
Ira Gershwin (1896-1983)
Dorothy Heyward (1890-1961)

Dorothy Heyward and Ira Gershwin are both protected in Canada. Brother Ira for a very long time, too (PD in 2034). So unless you have a instrumental excerpt - not an arrangement by someone else (Robert Russell Bennett, for example) - nothing can be posted here.
