Gounod Symphony no.1

Post by jeremyfreudberg »

Hi all:

I've noticed that on the Charles Gounod page there's no score or even a mention of Symphony no. 1 (D Major, 1855). The piece should be public domain and theoretically there should be a public domain score or manuscript. If anyone knows anything about why it has been omitted from IMSLP or knows anything about the whereabouts of a score, it would be much appreciated to leave a reply.

Thanks!

According to Worldcat, a score (now public domain) was published in 1855 by Colombier. The library nearest to you where a copy is supposed to be available is the Houghton Library at Harvard University, in Cambridge, MA.

If you can scan and upload a copy to IMSLP, it will be immediately added to the composer's page. Nobody did so far: I think this is the only reason why this work is not yet mentioned in the composer's page.

A more recent typeset, probably copyrighted, is published by Kalmus.

Thanks for the helpful response! When I get a chance I'll try to get to Harvard and hopefully I'll be able to scan it sometime soon.
