Brahms Piano Trio Nr. 4 in A Major Anh. 4/5

Post by fernandocello »

Does anyone have the score of Brahms' 4th. piano trio in A major? Have tried other sources but it did not work.
Thanks.

As you may already know, there is no clear consensus that Brahms is the composer of this particular trio. Breitkopf publishes it for sale; I see no other edition.

It was first published ca.1938; I'm guessing (guessing) that that's long enough ago that a scan from the manuscript would be allowable/out-of-copyright in most jurisdictions (assuming that one can legitimately upload library scans of manuscripts just because the holding library has done so, without at least checking Worldcat for recent publications of facsimiles or editions based on the... ... is not ... well, that's another subject...) (Editors were Ernst Bücken (1884-1949) and Karl Hasse (1883-1960). No clue where the ms is, though.)

Apparently, McCorkle was unable to locate the manuscript. The 1938 publication was actually registered with the U.S. Copyright office and was renewed in 1966 so it should remain under copyright in the U.S. until Jan. 1, 2034. I would think that it would be public domain in the EU under the urtext rule and public domain in Canada for failing to meet the minimum "threshold of originality."
