I just heard the Dondeyne premiere recording. Bruckner's harmonic and contrapuntal mastery were already quite evident here. However I can understand why the Austrian infantry bands rejected it, since it really broke the four-chord mold! It seems quite suitable for concert settings, therefore a rescoring for a modern-day wind band would reach new audiences.
