Hans Rott-Symphony in E major

Post by ClaudeMahler »

Hi!

I found this work a few days ago. I loved it, but to enjoy it in the best way, I have to read the score. I need that score...please!

I think it was first published in 2003 so copyright laws in most of the world, I believe, would place it out of the public domain for awhile... though if you're asking where you can buy the score (it's published by Ries & Erler) that's another matter. I doubt we're allowed to host it on IMSLP for some time, though...

(if one were to post the manuscript -and- if the work had been first performed awhile ago, this would be different, but I gather the premiere was in 1989. One movement was presented before a composition competition in 1880 though not performed, I gather. Source for this and that - mostly Hans Rott pages.)

Thank you very much indeed. I was thinking about to search it in some music shops here in my city, but I think that will be very hard. Rott waited a very long time (such as 109 years) to hear his masterpiece completely performed. By the way, thank you for your disposability.

depends, they may well have the score available but I can't guess what the cost will be. And happy to help as I can even so, of course. I first heard the Rott symphony back in the early 1990s and hope to hear it and his other music more often.

If the work was performed in Rott's lifetime, the work itself (meaning the manuscript, or an older edition) is free in Canada. If not performed until the 1990s, Canada's 50-year posthumous publication rule might apply. If first publication was in 2003, the same holds true for the USA. If first published between 1978-2002, the work is protected in the USA until 2048. In the EU, it would be protected for 25 years from first publication.

Since I think it was premiered in 1989, that's the problem, then...
