adding &action=purge to the url does not work anymore (probably since last update), results in empty wiki page.

Try to click for example the edit button, then change "action=edit" to "action=purge". Didn't try it, but it should work.
Making a void edit (i.e. saving the page without changing anything) should have a similar effect. Such edits should not be saved in the page history.

Leonard, go write some code that will make a purge tab show up at the top of the page
There is, I believe, an extension that does this and also several other admin commands (for admins only of course). But knock it into shape and trim the fat.

Do we really need it all that frequently (honest question)? Clicking "edit" and then "save" (without changes) is only 2 clicks, do we need to modify the software to save 1 click?

Good point. Plus, actually doing things in one click might infringe Amazon's One-Click patent.
