VARIATIONS scores not on the website: Strauss

Post by Yagan Kiely »

I haven't the time to check myself, but what is the copyright status of the following links?

They are not found in the VARATIONS website, but are found through IUCAT.

Both Elektra and Ariadne auf Naxos are PD in the US. Strauss is PD in Canada, but you have to account for the librettist's dates as well with operas. Any English translation could present pitfalls as well. If it was first published before 1923, it's PD in the USA. Canadian status depends upon whether the translator died more than 50 years ago or not.

Hugo von Hofmannsthal (the Librettist for both operas) died 1929-5-15
Alfred Kalisch (the Translator for Elektra) died 1933-5-17

So I guess it's PD in Canada, I'll upload the Elektra, and then the Ariadne auf Naxos in a while.

Still have some Mahler to upload...
