About a year ago, I was able to obtain the parts for Herbert Howells' Elegy for Viola, String Quartet and String Orchestra; I want to make a public domain transcription of the piece, since although it was composed in 1917 it was not published until 1938. As I don't have a manuscript to refer to, I was wondering if it would be possible to transcribe the score and parts from this first published edition myself. If it is possible, I should be able to get the transcription done in the next few days. Thanks!

If its first published after 1925 with a renewal on it, then its under copyright everywhere. Composition date does not matter if its been published already.
