Sole copies of 18C engraved works for IMSLP?

Post by arundodonax »

I own an early 18C engraved edition of works for musette de cour, the aristocratic French bagpipe of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
The principal work in the collection is well known and available as a facsimile and in edited form. Another work is one of only two known, the other being in the British Library. There are two other works, the existence of which is known and of which there are no other known copies. It seems that the previous owner was unwilling to share this material.
I am considering whether to make this available on IMSLP. Although it is of restricted interest, this material would be of extraordinary interest to those who play this instrument. I do not intend to transcribe and edit these works myself so submission if I decide to proceed would be by images of the engraved pages. The volume is too fragile to be scanned conventionally but if I were to follow this intention, would careful and uniform photographs be acceptable? Would I be able to claim recognition as the source of this unique material? There are certainly no copyright restrictions.

I hope this is the appropriate Forum for this question. If not, would it be better placed elsewhere?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Sure, we would welcome photographs, which could themselves be processed (most of the scans I makes are photographs, not flatbed scans).

As for recognition, you could be listed as the scanner.
