I saw a webinar talk by Neal Zaslaw on the new and latest edition of the Köchel catalog. I couldn't see the entire webinar, but a few points:
  • The printed catalog will be over 1,200 pages long; to be published by the original publisher, Breitkopf & Härtel
  • They are reverting to the original numbering (removing Einstein's revisions)
  • Works which were discovered after the first edition (thus lacking a Köchel number) will receive a new number after K.626
  • One of the appendices will have a list of all the works which have been discovered to have been written by others
  • The printed catalog will be in German (with two introductions in English); they are preparing an online version which will be in English

This catalogue has been published and available online since 23 September 2024. The English version of the catalogue can be found here: https://kv.mozarteum.at/en with the German version here: https://www.breitkopf.com/work/20546/.

Pity, rather liked "K[6]" numbers, whereas 627+ could easily be even more misleading.

The problem is that the more time goes on the more is discovered as to when pieces were actually written so you get more and more convoluted trying to renumber things. The solution they arrived at was a compromise toward simplicity mixed with comfort.

That said it's still pretty inconsistent in what it seems to keep in the main sequence vs the appendix as far as works that are doubtful goes, or what constitues enough enough a piece to get assigned a number vs keeping is as just a sktech...
