I was reading an article on the Beethoven Violin concerto which covered recordings from the Acoustic era up to the present day. In it two recordings (Juan Manen, Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona, Concordio Gelabert (1916)) and (Louis Zimmermann, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Willem Mengelberg) are mentioned where it is indicated that the soloist performed cadenzas they had created themselves or in any case ones that were never published.
I have no idea of the difficulties of transcribing a recording into notation, but I do know that it is possible.
