Beethoven, Horn Sonata page

Post by steltz »

The Beethoven Horn Sonata page, http://imslp.org/wiki/Horn_Sonata,_Op.1 ... udwig_van), is a bit of a mess, with some of the arrangements not showing because they aren't under the arrangements tag.

One reason is that some of the arranged parts, e.g. flute/violin, are in a set with the horn part. Is it normal to download, split parts off and put them separately? It will take some time, but I could do that.

Also, this was written in 1800, Grove lists a publication for cello/piano in 1801, which implies that the arrangement was done by Beethoven himself. Can anyone confirm this? If true, then this probably should stay on the originals page.

Thanks.

From the "Beethovenhaus":

Italic text: It is not sure whether Beethoven made the arrangement for violoncello by himself

In other words, the logic is that Beethoven would have made a public opposition to the arrangement if it wasn't his, so it has sort of been accepted as his.

Given that this isn't 100% certain, the options are:
1) put it on the main page, but put in the explanation from Beethovenhaus,
2) put it on the arrangements page with "For cello and piano (Beethoven)", also with the explanation

I take it is will not categorize properly if the arrangement header is "For cello and piano (Beethoven?)"?
