Adverts

This is by no means a proposal, it is merely a few hypothetical questions.
Would you accept adverts (as long as they are no popups) on imslp, in a medium so small content?
If IMSLP required adverts (that is a big if) to survive would you support adverts?
With 1,000,000 visitors a day 12,000 uniques a month, and 62,000 downloads a day add revenue could be quite high.
Of course it also could tarnish IMSLP's image.
Thoughts and discussion.
And a question for me, if all the revenue of adverts where put completely into maintaining IMSLP, would it still be a not for profit website? I believe it will be, just want to be sure.

Can the advert idea be run on Google's model?

By all means, for the purpose of this discussion, it's possible.
Personally, (others can have a view) popups would be the worst thing for IMSLP, colourful banner adds are bad enough. Google's would probably be the best option, if it got that way.

Due to the non-profit nature of IMSLP, we may have to explicitly state that the money is used solely for administration and maintenance costs?
Any contributor who knows how to make the adverts?

I'm sure an email to Google would suffice in an answer, but as of yet, there is no reason to believe we are in need of advertising, and I'm sure we'd all prefer there not to be, but it should be discussed all the same.
For all intensive purposes, and strictly theoretically even in not-for-profit organisations and charities, those working there still get a cut of the charity or the adverts, as wages, yet it is still considered not-for-profit. Not suggesting anything however.

Point taken. It would be the last resort if worse comes to worst.

All wellcome if can help.
BUT
Why are you afraid by money?
If IMSLP is a huge work I think people that dedicate full time to it must be paid! and adverts can supply money...and not only for employers...
Wikipedia has some employers too.
Don't you think so?

It's not about money. It's about defending the principles of IMSLP - public domain works should remain public.

Adverts are not a pleasant thing for any website, they are abhorred. They are ugly and demeaning to a website. Google's adverts are the best because they are text based and are not invading your eye site with blazing repulsive colours, but they are still, ugly.
Wikipedia has some employers too.
It survives of various donations, not advertising however. I doubt that at it's current situation, IMSLP wouldn't do brilliantly with donations.
Why are you afraid by money?
We are not, free money would be great, but no money is free. We are afraid of the fact that adverts can tarnish websites.

Agreed. Would like to visit a website that constantly annoys you with ad popups or clutters up your screen with ugly adverts? Of course, carefully designed adverts may help, but that's beside the point.

One benefit of google-like adverts is that it is always relative to what on the page.
May we all agree that popups are not an option?
