Re: Padrucci: The iPad app for IMSLP
The icon is inspired by a painting by Mark Rothko. I thought, turning it 90° made it a nice modernish interpretation of a score, no?Yagan Kiely wrote:Downloading it now.
One thing I'm curious about, is the icon. What does it represent?

Re: Padrucci: The iPad app for IMSLP
jujimufu, I'm certainly continuing to work on the app, and additional functionality is being poured into it. Never fear on that score! This is the first version. As time goes on, the app will get better and better, with features that appeal to the most people coming first. There are a number of diff...

Slowness in displaying scores
Folks, In some cases, scores can seemingly take a long time to render and draw to the iPad screen. This is due to a number of issues, almost always due to the way the score file was created. When a score is scanned, there are several options the scanner has available: * Bit Depth (will it be black a...

Folks, I'd like to announce the general availability of Padrucci, the iPad app for downloading, browing, and printing scores from http://imslp.org . You can can get it at the app store here: http://itunes.com/app/Padrucci . A lot of work went into the application to make it easy to browse the compos...

Re: What do folks use the IMSLP for?
1) Exploration of new music. ..... 2)IMSLP has been invaluable for finding unusual combinations, or collecting works without violas (always in short supply!), or works where I can use Eb horn parts for alto sax players..... So I'd say that the category walker and/or browse by instrumentation featur...

Re: iPad app for IMSLP: Thoughts/Preferences
1. All pages 2. Even pages only 3. Odd pages only 4. Individual page I'm working now on a Popover Menu that will appear when you're looking at a page in the score. Right now I have the following items: 1) Rotate this page 90° 2) Rotate all pages 90° -- 3) Omit this page. (I have to figure out the b...

Re: iPad app for IMSLP: Thoughts/Preferences
True, but usually n–1 has already been rendered (and shouldn’t be flushed until it becomes n–2!) If you're on page 251, the prerendered pages are 250 and 252. If you page to 250, then without prerendering n-1, the prerendered page would be only 251. You still need to do a prerendering of n-1. (Of c...

Re: iPad app for IMSLP: Thoughts/Preferences
Regarding the page rendering delay: surely when the performer turns to page x, then unless there’s a repeat it would be sensible for the app to begin rendering page x+1 in the background? PML Yes, I'm rendering n-1 and n+1 in the background (don't forget, they can turn the page backwards too, and t...

Re: iPad app for IMSLP: Thoughts/Preferences
I'm orienting the page automatically as it is, but that doesn't help for pages that have been incorrectly scanned or rendered to PDF, unfortunately -- so it's not an option that can be depended on.horndude77 wrote:It may be worth investigating automatically orienting the page.

Re: iPad app for IMSLP: Thoughts/Preferences
PML: The rotation issue is somewhat complicated, which is why I asked for feedback on it to begin with :¬) Yes, rotation lock can and should be important in viewing the PDFs. The issue I'm grappling with is documents that were scanned in landscape mode but display in portrait mode. I'll have to dig ...

Re: iPad app for IMSLP: Thoughts/Preferences
PML, nsilvers Good thoughts, all. I agree that 90° individually is the way to go. The downside is that if you have a piece with 100 pages, you have to rotate 100 times. PML, unless you've locked you screen rotation to one or the other direction, relying on the orientation of the iPad won't work. If ...

iPad app for IMSLP: Thoughts/Preferences
Hi all, As I'm finishing up the iPad app (Padrucci), I have some questions about folks' preferences on specific topics. Here's the first. I'm finding that the layout of some scans are inconsistent. Even numbered pages may be upside-down, while odd numbered pages are right-side up. They may have been...

Great, thanks!
I will look into the parser again, and see about porting it to Objective-C.
