Re: The news spreads

Has anyone noticed how widespread the news of IMSLP's controversial shutdown has become? It's all over the place. An interesting thing with the discussions I've seen is that there is often a lot of non-composers stepping up to defend composers rights and a lot of composers wanting imslp back as soo...

No, UE didn't close down the site. UE made demands - not requests - that IMSLP remove scores that are in the public domain in Canada. Additionally, UE demanded that IP filtering be installed Eh, actually, no: "We further demand that you institute a filtering system to the IMSLP that would prev...

Am I a representative of the Pirate Party? Perhaps I was a bit too subtle in my criticism... I'll have another shot at explaining this as clearly as possible: The Pirate Party is a political movement that drives a political agenda. Moving imspl to their administration will give them a lot of publici...

I hope everybody here understands that the pirate party is a political organisation with certain political goals. By moving imslp to their servers you are supporting these goals, so please read their principles and make sure that you do agree with their views before you jump to any conclusions: http...

A pirate server is definitively not the solution. If the activity is to continue in any way, which I sincerely hope it will, then it must be kept legal, as it always have been.

Another major reason behind me taking the server down is the fact, which I have been made painfully aware of in the last few days, that I can no longer support IMSLP adequately. I perfectly understand this. It has became a huge project, which doesn't run itself for free. In addition, I will be will...

This is a sad day. This site has been such a valuable resource. When I found it, it was the first time ever that I used the "add to favorites" button in my browser. And I did this without hesitation. Personally, I do not really care about the scores by the composers UE reacted at, I can fi...

Oh, forgot the cue notes. This is actually the most time consuming part of the work and it also requires quite a bit of knowledge about orchestras and orchestral mentality. I have to agree with horndude that scanned parts are the best. However, seeing there still is lots of chamber works without par...

I'm afraid it's not that easy. Midi files opened in Sibelius or Finale are usually a complete mess that demand a lot of cleaning. Apart from copying all articulations and directions, you also need to assign notes to different voices, retype most tuplets, correct enharmonic spelling of accidentals et...
