Re: uploaded recordings with no scores
Hello IMSLP. I am Kevin Bodhipaksha. After reading these posts, I would like to explain a few things: As it happens, all of the works I have uploaded on IMSLP have been completed. I was aware at the time of uploading them that to submit incomplete works would be senseless. While all these works have...

Re: Staff Paper
Since it would technically fit into neither "scores" nor "recordings" categories, perhaps a new category could be created, like "miscellaneous," and all extraneous music-related items on this site, like staff paper, graphics, historical documents, etc., could be placed ...

Re: College Advice
Thank you for all of your advice. Just out of curiosity, if you do not mind me asking, how important are your academics in relation to all of this? I am making an effort to maintain good grades in case I decide to attend a university that requires a good academic standing for entrance, and I agree t...

College Advice
I know these forums receive their share of inquiries about college advice, and I apologise for adding to the load, but I am in need of help. I have learned a lot about the complications in choosing and establishing a substantial career, and I am sure you can empathise with the frustration and diffic...

Re: Favorite Climaxes
The melodic content of many (most?) of the melodies in the whole symphony consists of wide falling intervals, usually a 4th. The first intervals you hear in the first three movements are a falling 4th and these are brought back in the final movement. And by #49 in that movement you are hearing octa...

Re: Favorite Climaxes
If you want the end of Mahler's first to be climatic, really bring out the timpani. Even so, it's still abrupt (almost like an anti-climax), and I think we can forgive Mahler because it was his first symphony and he probably thought it would sound like a strong climax, as it looks on paper, although...

Re: fun piece for piano and violin
Kroll's "Banjo and Fiddle" is a very fun piece, as are Wieniawski's violin showpieces. And while they all require skills that I don't posses, Stravinsky's pieces for violin and piano all seem like they'd be great fun to play, including the arrangements. I personally like the arrangement of...

Re: Best Composer ever
I don't know if you could say Wagner was the best composer, but he was probably one of the most ambitious and imaginative ones. I'm not even sure who the best composer is, or whether a composer can be considered "the best," but there are definitely those whose music have certain better qua...

Wagner's Ring (as a summer project). Just finished Siegfried Act II while following along in the libretto. I think my German class is starting to pay off...!

Re: Favorite Genre(s) and Why
Yes, opera is one of my favorite genres too. Although I love all genres of (classical) music and don't believe one genre is "better" than any other, it's true that opera is the "total art form." It has endless possibilities and can combine almost every element of art: orchestral ...
