Re: Overrated, Overused, Overdone, underrated etc.

Brahms absolutely is the most overrated composer in all of classical music, but that just means that there's a huge disparity between how good he is and how good people think he is. Somehow the name Brahms has a mystique that captures people who assume he must be good, because hey, he wrote that lul...

Re: BORODIN Prince Igor FS

What I have of Act III is now posted. My copy is missing pages 429-430 and 451-454, so these are not in the scan. I would ask if anyone had these missing pages, could they please scan and upload them so that I might incorporate them into the score. I realize it is extremely unlikely this will happen...

Re: Strauss Salome orchestra parts

This would actually be appreciated if you could upload just those couple of parts.

Re: Shostakovich Jazz Suite no.1 Plucked instrument

Ah, threadromancy. It's actually both ironically, but the "hawaiian guitar" (known in English as the ukelele) is the featured solo instrument in that one part.

Re: Samuel Barber - Adagio for strings op.11

Barber died in 1981, not 1987, but it will still be another 20 years before his music can be hosted on this site. The Adagio is the first half of the second movement of Barber's only (named) String Quartet. This is the version you'd have to play if you want to play it for string quartet. The parts f...

Re: Messian's scores

The score for St. François is printed in the "folio" size that a number of Messiaen's other scores are printed in (La Transfiguration, La Ville d'en-Haut, etc.). The page size for these is approximately 17"x12" (typically listed as 45 cm I believe), which is large but not abnorma...

Re: Schoenberg Sämtliche Werke, Strauss Lieder

14 months and counting.

Obviously I meant that I would check librettos before posting anything. That wasn't the best example (but it will be postable somewhat soon), but there are other missing orchestral songs that could be published assuming everything checks out.

Schoenberg Sämtliche Werke, Strauss Lieder

Both of these are urtext edition of sufficient age to be eligible for this site, but obviously both would only be PD in Canada. The Schoenberg edition was actually begun in the 1960's, even though it is still being published today. Many of the volumes were published before 1986 (including his orches...

Re: Mahler Symphony no 9

I'm not sure what you think you're uploading, but this is the Dover scan yet again. This scan most certainly is not from the critical edition. Either you're uploading the wrong files, or you're trying to upload the same files you downloaded from IMSLP earlier. That's the reason it said you were uplo...

Re: Mahler Symphony no 9

I'm not sure the files were uploaded to the server, because I'm not seeing them listed anywhere. It looks like you'd have to upload again. Try to make sure that the file names are unique so that they don't match the earlier uploaded scores. Although before you do so, I should mention that it might b...

Re: Mahler Symphony no 9

The information I'm seeing for the Sixth Symphony is that the original version was published in 1963, while this revised version (which still mentions Ratz as an editor and is not a new engraving) was published in 1998. Yet another new version (presumably a new engraving) was published last year acc...

Re: Mahler Symphony no 9

This Sämtliche Werke edition is certainly a mess, and as it stands right now is almost Bruckner bad. I'm not sure that list is entirely complete regarding all of the different versions, but it looks pretty close. I'll try not to be too cynical that almost every single volume published before 1986 ha...

Re: Mahler Symphony no 9

There really shouldn't be a problem regarding commentary in the Mahler scores. He often put detailed messages himself into the scores to explain what he wanted, but these would be fine. Other than that, just don't upload the first few pages with the critical commentary, only the score itself. There ...

Re: Mahler Symphony no 9

Like the Berlioz, I would wonder what the eligibility of the Mahler critical editions are for uploading now that the EU site is operational. I'm sure it could be a bit confusing since a number of volumes have been given reissues since the '60's, but they could also be a good addition to the site if ...

Re: Missing Intermezzo from Bruckner's String Quintet

Nowak does mention a publication of the Intermezzo in 1913, but I'm unaware of what version he is speaking of, or if it still exists. Likewise, I assumed the Gesamtausgabe was the only place to find it. I suppose that also begs the question as to the status of the Nowak editions regarding copyright....
