Could you find a clarinet, or a flute, and/or maybe at least one french horn? Even just to "suggest" the colours of the original woodwind and brass parts they make a big difference in a reduced orchestration. Just string tone only will be very dull for the audience :(

I wish it were that simple, even with Handel. Although his works were published in England, they were simultaneously published in Germany (where they were performed in his absence, mostly in Hamburg). But he although he published his operas under their Italian titles, this doesn't prevent Brits from...
