Re: Neue Bach-Ausgabe and copyright/urtext
Hi, yes, that is rather complex. The rule here, down under in Australia for all pd materials that have been republished, is it expires after 25 years, which sounds exactly the same as Canada and other places. I have read on the net somewhere that there is some kind of agreement between Australia and...

Neue Bach-Ausgabe and copyright/urtext
I have a question regarding some of the scores on this page: https://imslp.org/wiki/Neue_Bach-Ausgabe_(Bach,_Johann_Sebastian) these are obviously public domain works that have been reengraved etc. Some of these are still not public domain in the USA. Why does the more than 25 year old rule since th...

uploading pdf's created from Sibelius, from Pd files, part of the work, not whole
Hi to to the forum, I recently needed the William Tell score arranged for piano and two pianos for a piece of music, and I made sure the versions I used to create them were unquestionably all public domain, with no editing question etc. As I only needed the most famous last section of the overture, ...

Copyright and editors of public domain material
Hi to the Forum, I'm quite anxious in relation to Editors of public domain music and when they die and how long the public domain work they have edited remains in public domain after their death. On this page: https://imslp.org/wiki/Guillaume_Tell_(Rossini%2C_Gioacchino) There is a Franz Liszt arran...

Copyright and melody and chord progressions
Hi to the forum, this may seem like a dumb question, but if you are writing some music, and you are using a chord progression, or arpeggio pattern, or melody from a classical work, but the publisher of the music still has the right for the publication of that classical music that is in the public do...

Some pdfs are locked so you cannot open in Photoscore
Hi to the forum, I'm not sure why some pdfs are locked. I've tried to open two arrangements of Griegs Mozart Sonata in C major for 2 pianos. When I opened them in photo score to turn them into a Sibelius score, a message popped up saying they were locked. Is there some reason why they are locked? Is...

Re: Trying to contact a score contributor to acknowledge their score
Hi Alan, thanks again for that previous email, I went to the IMSLP page where your score was hosted, and found all of the parts. It looks like they are pretty defintely in the Public domain, so there is no longer any worry for as your score was based on these parts. I hope you can get back to me and...

Hi Alan, I just found your post. Thank you so kindly for getting back to me. I had no idea that you had responded, I may have received an email saying that you had, but if that's the case I missed it as I have a pretty full gmail inbox!! I just realized after reading the post that it was you who upl...

Re: Trying to contact a score contributor to acknowledge their score
Hi Bicinium, thank you for your reply. I didn't realize you had answered, so I actually private messaged someone else about this, until I realized that I had a private message from you. Yes, I'll think about acknowledging his contribution, as in the end, I scrapped my piece, and started the orchestr...

Trying to contact a score contributor to acknowledge their score
Hi to the forum, I have used part of a score created by Alan Chen who re-typed the Flight of the Bumble Arrangement. https://imslp.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_Tsar_Saltan_(opera)_(Rimsky-Korsakov,_Nikolay) According to the Licence which is a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 [tag/del], and the licence asks ...

The Suites from the Fairy Tale Operas and Dubinushka copyright
Hi to the forum, In trying to find the very original orchestration of the Flight of the Bumble Bee by Rimsky Korsakov, I eventually came across it here, as an e-book or a print book from Dover https://www.amazon.com.au/Suites-Operas-Dubinushka-Orchestral-Scores-ebook/dp/B00NB9Z21O I also came across...
