Caldara vocal duets

Post by Soxyfleming »

Hello there,

I'm interested in finding more vocal duets by Antonio Caldara, any voice combination though SA or SB would be good, preferably sacred works with figured bass. There is a collection of 8 motets (duets and trios) here which i have found but I also read somewhere that Caldara composed a lot more.

I'd be delighted to see/transcribe some from original manuscript scans, but would be interested in any out of copyright editions.

many thanks

Have you tried CPDL? They have a lot of early vocal music.

Thanks, yes, I have looked there and there is more material here!

There are several well known Italian arias there which have long been in the repertoire but I only recently came across the sacred motets for 2 and 3 voices here on imslp. I then read somewhere else (a Bach site) that Caldara composed about 50 duets around the same time as the motets (1711-15 I think)...I'm hoping that someone in a library somewhere may know of them in their collection and be able to upload scans of manuscripts. Any information about sources for Caldara or libraries where manuscripts may be held would be welcome!

thanks for your reply

We are in the process of digitizing a volume of his church works, Vol. 13 of DTO. It contains:
Acht Motetten (2-3 voices and organ): Caro mea vere est cibus. Ego sum panis vivus. Benedictus Deus. Transeunte Domino. Transfige, dulcissime Jesu. Miserere mei, Domine. Laboravi in gemito meo. O sacrum convivium.
Stabat Mater (4 voices, string and wind instruments, and organ)
Missa dolorosa (4 voices, string instruments, and organ)
Te Deum (double chorus, string and wind instruments, and organ)
Crucifixus (16 voices and organ)

It should be up in the next few weeks.
