Update for Main Page text needed

As our resident self-appointed IMSLPgnome Snailey/Perlnerd666 has been pointing out rightly and insistently, parts of our Main Page are somewhat outdated. Let's fix it.

One thing that needs to be changed is the Projects subsection. We've announced the completion of the BGA a while back, so we need something new. Shall that be the OM, or is it too soon for that?

What else needs to be changed? Please post whatever comes to your mind. After a period of brainstorming, I'll try to consolidate the proposals into a draft for further review and editing by the community.

Let's not forget that for many visitors, the Main Page will be the first impression they get of the entire project.

I should link to wikipedia's Wikignome article. There can be more than one.
I think the OM project is the current major project, that should be added, and all cobwebs swept up.

We should probably change "IMSLP" to "Petrucci Music Library" in several places. What other cobwebs did you notice?

We need volunteers! But I'm going to start the project with anyone I can find as soon as possible, so put it up there if you want!

Also, is this place slowly changing to PML, or is it going to continue to be IMSLP/PML?

Please keep "IMSLP" within the name for the collection of scores.

I knew it. That's why I capitalised it! To no avail.

Is there any reason? Certainly PML is much easier to remember.

"Petrucci Music Library" does not convey the scope and content well enough.. "IMSLP" specifies that the library is "international" and contains "scores". Some people might first think that "PML" contains (primarily) sound files ("music" in that casual usage of the term) -- which I understand might be a possibility in the future -- but the current configuration is exclusively scores, right?

Just my thoughts.

It is my understanding that in the long run, the name of the library should become "Petrucci Music Library", but maybe we should wait for Feldmahler to return and share his intentions with us.

My suggestion would be to use "Petrucci Music Library" as the name and "the International Music Score Library Project" as a sort of tagline, much like "Wikipedia - the Free Encyclopedia".

(On a related note, did you know that of all the people that come to us via a search engine, a not entirely negligible percentage uses a jumbled up variant of "imslp"? Currently, Google seems to get it right at least for some variants, but an easier to remember name would also reduce the potential for abuse.)

In the long run, the petrucci library could become the all-encompassing name for IMDBP, IMSLP, maybe a future recordings project...etc.

In a word, no. However, the Welcome page is doing such little function right now that the update seems almost pointless - it would need links from the main page, which brings us full circle....
