Does anybody know a free utility a with command line interface, like PKZIP and PKUNZIP (by PKWARE, 1993)? I am under XP.
Of course there are many archiving tools with a GUI but I don't know how to make a script (= batch file) that automates a series of mouse clicks when I often compress the same set of files.

How about 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/)? Besides being a pretty decent tool all by itself, it also has a command line version. A helpful HOWTO document is at http://www.dotnetperls.com/7-zip-examples.
