I must say now that I love the score to A Bridge on the River Kwai by Malcolm Arnold. I know the Colonel Bogey March is the most popular part from that film, but I must say I love the Overture and The Trek to the Bridge sections. Sir Malcolm was a wonderful melodic writer, and it is apparent in this classic World War II film.

I'd say the Star Wars Battle Theme is a brilliant composition for a movie scene.

Shutter Island is built entirely on pre-existing contemporary concert works, and it is brilliant!

The use of Beethoven for the speech portion and closing of "The King's Speech" is quite appropriate and moving.

I'm a fan of Patrick Doyle as a film composer. His score for Kenneth Branagh's Henry V is amazing. The most beautiful part is Crispan's Day speech scene. If anyone watched the Oscars this year, this piece was used over the Lifetime Achievement section.
I have recently read a book by Doug Adams about Howard Shore's Lord of the RIng's score. The amount of thought that went into each character/race's theme was amazing. There were usually several versions of the theme to represent different aspects to their personality - including that of the eponymous ring, which is both seductive and evil.
