There are 3 editions of the Raff octet, two are copyrighted 2004 and 2005, so those won't work. You would have to find a library with the original 19th C. Ries (Dresden) publication. WorldCat shows a couple of libraries in Iowa and Massachusetts that have it, though whether they would be willing to scan it is another story.

As for Bruch, WorldCat only shows the Simrock edition, edited by Thomas Wood. There are various dates for this, so some of these are reprints, but in all likelihood this is also under copyright. The earliest date I could find was 1964, and if the editor is still alive, he may be protected, especially if it wasn't an urtext edition.

Since it looks like we can't help you with those works, and if you are wanting to explore string octets other than Mendelssohn, you might want to try Woldemar Bargiel and Niels Gade, both of which IMSLP has, and they are also nice juicy Romantic works. :D

Others octets on IMSLP that I don't know at all are:
Nikolai Afanasyev, Reinhold Gliere, Hermann Gradener, Otto Malling, Johan Svendsen, and Ferdinand Thierot.

There are some Serenades by Volkmann and Klengel, but I haven't gotten round yet to seeing how many of which strings they use.

Hope this is of some consolation.

I can probably scan the parts for the Raff, but depending on your purpose, that may or may not be helpful. If it is I'd be happy to do so in the next week or so.

That would be great, just as long as they meet the IMSLP guidelines, I have friends in Mexico that want to perform these particular pieces. Cordially, Jon

Yup, the parts are from the Ries edition, so they should be fine for UL. I'll try to get to it this weekend or next.

We started our NEH project in the Octets, and we've posted here: https://urresearch.rochester.edu/search ... ctionId=63. We also have the 2005 Nordstern edition of the Raff Octet. Of course, we have other octet PD scores/parts that we haven't yet digitized (e.g. Enesco, Grädener, Spohr). Maybe someday.

Does anyone have the Bazzini string quintet? I know a group that would like to play it on Sunday. Please let me know!

I just uploaded parts to the Bazzini quintet. The file is from the upcoming Merton Music Project, sent courtesy of Theo Wyatt. Please note that the parts are set up as 2-page spreads on A3 landscape sheets in imposed order for two-sided printing, folding and stapling. The file should produce serviceable parts for performance if printed out correctly.
