Berwald String Quartets

Post by yojimboken »

The Scandanavian composers tend to be underrepresented. These would be a nice addition.

The symphonies are beautiful, I like specially the third one.

By the way, I think some pieces from Berwald appeared recently at imslp, but they are blocked by copyright's law.

Interesting for a composer who died in 1868 to still get blocked for copyright. I suppose someone tried posting recent editions. Surely there must be PD editions of Berwald's music out there somewhere.

Not if they didn't get published!

The Wilhelm Hansen pocket edition of the Sinfonie Singuliere has no copyright date at all so this could be PD. The Barenreiter critical editions would be copyrighted.

We have a set of parts for his third quartet that we are now in the process of digitizing. It's the only PD quartet of Berwald's that we own.
