How to figure an augmented chord

The US system would use capitalisation, 'II+' because it has the major third. (A) European system, and the one I prefer, uses normal 'ii' with figured bass next to it: .

What a pity that this example is actually in error, since a ii+ chord in C over an F sharp would be figured as 6/3 according to the rules of figured bass (i.e. first inversion), not as 6/#!

The # is in regard to a #3. The 3rd is generally not shown in figured bass; root chords do not display the 3, and 1st inversion chords are displayed as a 6 (without the 3). If the # was in relation to the 6th, it would be either before or after that figure, not below it. Also, if we where displaying all fugures it would be:

as that would merely make a ii chord in C major, a major chord instead of minor.

Ah, I didn't actually read the title of the thread (the word augmented). You are quite correct, the 3rd over the F# should be raised for the chord to be augmented. My bad :)
