private message and outbox

I'm probably missing something very basic, but I typed a private message yesterday, clicked on submit, and it is still sitting in the outbox, unsent. In the outbox, I don't see another button to click to get it to send.
What am I missing?

I guess the message stays in the outbox until it is read by the addresse. Then only, it goes in the sent box.

Exactly. It shows you it's not yet been read and gives you the chance to edit it should you wish.
