I find John Cage’s 4’33” works for me... :-P

But assuming you actually want to listen to one, then you can't go past “Die Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen” from Mozart's Zauberflöte.

Beat me to it...I was going to say both of the Queen of the Night's arias from "The Magic Flute".

what's that definition of a coloratura singer - "someone who can't find the right note, but has a wild time hunting for it" or something like that.

If only for the extra-musical in it, Olympia's song from Comtes d'Hoffman is a good second.

Would Gliere's "Concerto for Colaratura in F Minor" count? I know it's a stretch, but it is a nice piece of music.

It's totally overindulgent, but Zerbinetta's aria from Ariadne auf Naxos can be absolutely amazing if done well (dreadful if done badly...).

I realise I'm so totally bumping a really old thread, but since I happen to be a dramatic colortura....

Have you ever listened to "Popoli di Tessaglia" (concert aria by Mozart)? It has the distinction of having the highest demanded note in the classical repertoire (G6). It is absolutely written for a dramatic colortura, not a lyric. It can be found here: http://dme.mozarteum.at/DME/nma/nma_pdf ... 9642edcbf4

I actually prefer the Queen of the Night's opening aria "O Zittre Nicht" over the blasty "Der Holle Racht". "O Zittre Nicht" has more complex emotions to portray: the QotN gets to be schemey... she has to play at being nice while trying to surpress her rage (ei: "Ein Bösewicht!").
