These volumes - http://imslp.org/wiki/Novello's_Glee-Hive_(Various) - are marked "likely not public domain" in Canada or the EU. Why should that be, when all three volumes were published by 1852?

This is an unfortunate consequence of the "Various" category being moved to a 'person' type category. Since there's no birth or death date for "Various", the autotagger reads it as if it was a living composer. We're working on a fix. If worse comes to worse, I'll have to add a noautotag to all 600 pages. The same thing happened with "Anonymous", by the way.

As the move was my bright idea, I'll do my fair share of the tidying up if a quick fix isn't possible

Actually it probably was a good idea. Just one of the little 'gotchas' that can pop up and bite from time to time.
