Vocal versus Orchestral scores

Post by Contratrombone64 »

Firstly, love IMSLP, it's a fantastic resource and would have saved me a furtune purchasing musc years ago.

is it possible for some cleaning up to happen so that vocal scores and orchestral scores are easy to identify? I'm talking operas here.

Um...
For the most part, they are under separate headings, "full scores" and "vocal scores". What is unclear exactly?
i.e.

http://imslp.org/wiki/Don_Giovanni,_K.5 ... ull_Scores
and

Thanks.

Sorry, if my post was misleading, let me be more succinct ...

I'm refering to the level above the examples you provided. If you "search by composer name" you will initially get a listing of ALL works available on IMSLP. But, at that point, there is no reference to whether what is provided is a recording, a full score, a vocal score, a piano reduction, band parts.

So for example, with Massenet, Thais DOES actually have a full score available (which is marvellous) as well as vocal scores and various arrangements, but you won't know this until you click onto the link.

Unfortunately, with the current system and searches, it will not return what type they are. That information is only posted in the page links.

The category walker does have the ability to list all "Pages with arrangements", which is a level 3 heading, I think. The Vocal Scores category is also a level 3 heading. This possibly belongs in feature requests, but would it be possible to do the same with vocal scores so that the category walker has a "Pages with vocal scores" listing?

This wouldn't on its own sift out only opera, but you could either go to opera first, then use the category walker to get to vocal scores, or the other way around.
