Copyright Reviewer Hiring Thread
IMSLP is officially looking for contributors who are willing to do copyright review Contrary to what is possibly popular belief, copyright review is not rocket science, nor does it necessarily take tons of time: you can chose your own workload depending on how much free time you have.
Also, I will be announcing a re-assignment of the duties of admins and copyright reviewers after the upgrade in a few days (since some of the new features added are necessary for this to work). One of the changes is that only copyright reviewers will be considered for adminship. This is also necessary since part of the admins' duty is to oversee the copyright review process.
The procedure for becoming a copyright reviewer is as simple as passing a test. But I would rather the test not be treated as a traditional test per se; the test contains 99% of what you would need to know to be a copyright reviewer on IMSLP, and so think of the test as a way to familiarize yourself with the copyright laws of Canada and the US.
Since this is the first IMSLP copyright test, I will be rather lax with regard to the passing score. This is especially since the point of the test is not so much to pass as to get to know the copyright laws.
The test can be found here:
http://imslp.org/realimages/f/f8/IMSLP_ ... ete%29.pdf
By the way, please answer directly in the e-mail, or in an attached .TXT file. Less formatting problems that way
Good luck! And please feel free to post here about whether you are planning to take the test or not... I can get a general idea of how many people are interested that way.

Unfortunately I don't think that I'll have the time in the near future to study the copyright laws. You may revoke my admin rights. I'll try to do some non-admin tasks from time to time, other tasks like deleting empty pages will have to be taken over by someone else. Maybe at some later point I'll have more time. Sorry for that.
Actually, no need All current admins will keep their admin status regardless (and will also be issued copyright reviewer status, which will be separate after the upgrade). I will also depending on circumstance admin some non-copyright review contributors to work on some specific facet of IMSLP (much like how you worked on the website layout), but otherwise all admins will start out as copyright reviewers from now on (or at least pass the test)...
In any case, I think you have deserved your adminship, so I see no reason to remove your admin status

I don't think I'll have any problem getting this test right, as I have translated the "public domain" page into Greek, which means I must have read it and understood it completely
Also, since I start conservatory courses on Monday, I'll have access to the school's music score libraries as well as other online libraries and catalogues, which will make it much easier to assess whether a publication is under copyrights or not, if there isn't enough information on the score itself (and it also means I'll spend much time searching for public domain scores to upload to IMSLP )
I'd also be interested in an admin position after the update too, but I'll make an inquiry about that after the update.
I'll take the test as soon as I have settled down at a friend's house. Take care
(btw, how do we translate the text about the copyright reviewers that's been added to every page?)
Cheers

Don't worry! IMSLP needs all the copyright reviewers who are interested, and you can choose how much you want to do I will mark the tests probably tomorrow, though I can only assign copyright review status after the upgrade (since this is part of the upgrade), which happens on Saturday (rather excited about it since there'll be a bunch of cool stuff coming with it too!)
Feld, what do you think about the users showing proof by providing some good submissions or corrections done by the candidate? They should not only proof that they understand the pd law (or can look up the answers in our beautiful tables), but also that they are motivated to be very strict in reviewing and use correct file tags and formatting.
I don't want to be cocky, but I'm just a little bit scared that on long term, copyrighted files would escape through the mazes of the reviewing net.

Well, I will require all copyright reviewers to follow a set of stylistic guidelines (when I set up the Copyright Reviewer page after the upgrade). I've also thought about what happens when there are many copyright reviewers, and I have some features planned so that will ease copyright reviewers correcting each other's mistakes
Overall I think this project is right on track and is going to be fine
We can only do the best we can (lol). Just as there is no perfection in this world, there is always the chance that one or two copyrighted files will slip in. In that case I can only rely on either other copyright reviewers, or the users to report this.
However, I believe that we have done more than enough to prevent this, and to the limit of our abilities (at least the limit of my brain lol). I mean, have you seen ANY other wiki that has such a copyright review system set up? Nope Not even Wikipedia itself...
