Re: Why is there no english opera?

Until the 20th century, English audiences favored oratorio over opera. Besides the masterful works of Britten, Vaughan Williams wrote the folk opera "Hugh the Drover," another telling of the Falstaff legend in "Sir John in Love," an eerie setting of Synge's "Riders to the Se...

Re: Best Endings

The first that come to mind are the finale of Daphnis et Chloe, the final trio and duet in Der Rosenkavalier, the haunting finale of Vaughan Williams' London Symphony, and there are many many more!

Ropartz song blocked?

Hello! I noticed that a mélodie, "Il Pleut," by Ropartz remains blocked. It appears to be from a collection published in 1907. Could this piece be unblocked?

Die Zauberflöte Vocal Score

Hello! Would it be possible to upload a more practical German vocal score to Die Zauberflöte? The first edition is beautiful and historically interesting but a bit impractical to use. Thank you so much!

Re: What is your favorite aria for a coloratura?

It's totally overindulgent, but Zerbinetta's aria from Ariadne auf Naxos can be absolutely amazing if done well (dreadful if done badly...).

Brahms only composed two cello sonatas. Did you mean the third violin sonata?

7. The Queen of Spades (Tchaikovsky)
6. Der Rosenkavalier
5. Falstaff
4. Die Walkuere
3. Don Giovanni
2. Madama Butterfly
1. Pelleas et Mellisande

Re: ravel - piano

As a pianist, I can tell you that Sixtus is right on the money. There is virtually nothing "easy" to play by Ravel. The closest thing I could recommend would be the Prelude for piano. A la maniere de Borodin is not too bad, but it gets complicated on the last two pages. The Berceuse sur le...

Re: Favorite Climaxes

Paul Le Flem?

Le Flem (1881-1984(!)) has two scores on the Sibley Website (Piano Quintet and Violin Sonata both published before 1911). Could these be uploaded, or does Le Flem's death year keep them from being in public domain? Thanks!

Use of IMSLP scores in competitions

Hello, I am a vocal coach and I regularly participate in the NATS vocal competition in the USA. In this competition, the rules state that without exception the contestants must provide their accompanists with "original copies" of music to play from, i.e. published books. They recently bega...
