Musopen Project

Following a link from Wikipedia's page on IMSLP today, I discovered a similar site called Musopen, which makes available public domain sheet music as well as recordings (though a somewhat limited supply). Most of these are fairly high quality, recorded by a variety of individuals as well as the Skid...

I know quite a few cellists that I would say are very expressive, most of whom are female. Two of these women recently won concerto competitions, and I must say I have rarely seen such beautiful playing in my life. It may be true that much of the classical music scene (especially conducting) is stil...

Brahms's 3rd Piano Quartet in C Minor, op.60. My favorite piece ever. And virtually never played. I think I've had the score out of the library for 8 months now. Also, this one was added to IMSLP just before it closed. If I have time when it comes back, maybe I'll add parts. Oh, the track just chang...

What to do temporarily?

I read, somewhat sadly, the decision to keep IMSLP down for the remainder of the semester. While I understand your reasons, I wish there were some way to make the clearly PD files available sooner. It seems like a lot of people agree, so would there be a way to temporarily open parts of the site? Th...

If published in 1925, the work isn't PD in the US.

Oh, I see. I was thinking of US rules.

Incidentally, though this is splitting hairs, is the actual act of scanning a score from a library in the US legal if the score is only PD in Canada? I thought making digital copies of books is restricted.

Old Peters Edition of Brahms

In the music library of my college I found an old Edition Peters score of Brahms's Piano Quartet in c minor, op.60. It was edited by Georg Schumann, and has plate number 10443 <3>. There is no copyright date on the volume or on Worldcat, and I have the reference and music librarians stumped. Does an...

Sarasate's Navarra, Op.33

Does anybody happen to have a copy of the Navarra for two violins and piano? I can't find one. Thanks!

I uploaded that along with several other notes.tarakanov.net pieces. I thought the pieces were of questionable legality, but I think I discussed them on the forums and was generally reassured that it was fine. When the Public Domain status on the page switched to "Verified" I kind of stopp...

What about pieces with both Opus and S numbers? Most of the works lack an Opus number, but I've been putting them in the title and the S numbers only under Catalog Number.

Would it be better to put the S number in the title and catalog number, and simply leave out Opus numbers when given?

Should we put the type as "New Composition?" If I do "Normal Scan" it says that scans must be PD instead of cc-by 3.0
