Dear KC Leung, http://imslpforums.org/viewtopic.php?p=7874 Already answered, at length... IMSLP isn't pushing formats that aren't supported widely, and actually, both the Sibelius and Finale formats are a good deal more tested and mature than either of Lilypond or MusicXML. The latter is probably th...

 You are joking, aren't you? Many of us consider the arbitrary lengthening of copyright to be a bad joke, but encouraging people to break the law - unless they happen to live in Ethiopia, Iran (30y pma), Afghanistan, or Yemen (30y pma) - is not the way to work against it. The remaining 96% of ...

President-Elect Barack Obama's victory has been celebrated by almost everyone I've talked to in person about it here in Melbourne, and grateful that the impending end to the Bush years will not give way to President McSame. Anyway, time to rant about the gay marriage vote. Yes, Proposition 8 passed ...

Hi again Mad Tom, Yes, the typesetting permission problem exists for ANY computer format. Correcting errors isn't such a problem, since we are only permitting Creative Commons licencing for typesets, which solves some of those issues fairly neatly. However it's the problem of getting permission from...

One last rant from me, and then I'll shut up for today... I'm currently doing NaNoWriMo, so I am writing a lot of words besides the ones in this thread! Yesterday, I went to see the first one of these machines installed in Australia, and had an out of print book (the English publication of Hypneroto...

Don't get me wrong.... If there is an existing score, of course why re-typeset it? However in orchestral music, in many case you can only get the full score, but not the parts. This is particularly true in Chinese symphonic works, which become out of print very quickly and not reprinted. You are da...

Hi Mad Tom `99, Indeed, a visual score is of no use to the blind. Some people here are perhaps misunderstanding what IMSLP is. It is a project to gather any conceivable written music in the public domain, as well as appropriately-licenced copyrighted works. Believe it or not, the vast majority (as i...

My A$0.02... IMSLP is a score library repository. The primary goal is usable sheet music, and the de facto standard is PDF. I would argue that anything that gets submitted in any other format, without a matching PDF, is unacceptable. It is way more future proof than anything else mentioned thus far ...

Thanks Carolus, My mistake regarding the Kritischer Berichten . I thought these were subject to some of the urtext ruling, so I'll amend the table sometime. Although the earliest possible year for a life+50 term to expire would have been 2011 for a single author, that editor's co-author lived a good...

What type of file are you uploading, presumably PDF? Does the filename have the correct .pdf file extension? If it continues to fail uploading to: http://imslp.org/wiki/Special:AddFileNew/Trio_Sonata_in_C%2C_K.14_%28Mozart%2C_Wolfgang_Amadeus%29 then perhaps try the upload page: http://imslp.org/wik...

Simply, you'll have to ask the rights holders to see if they would be willing to allow the works to be issued under one of those licences. Who those rights holders are you will have to find out; sometimes it is the estate of the deceased composer; or the rights of the composer may have been transfer...
