Re: Solo beginnings
So is Symphonic Prelude. I thought we were listing any pieces that began with a solo instrument (for wind ensemble or orchestra). I guess I should read the instructions more carefully...

Re: The Death Waltz
Neither of those things can be real, can they? It's impossible, or highly improbable, in any case for that to be played and sound in any way even slightly like music.

Re: Solo beginnings
A more recent piece by Mark Camphouse (published in '06), "Symphonic Prelude: The Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer" begins with an english horn solo.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?
"Overture to the Wasps", by Ralph Vaughan Williams. I don't think that this piece is truly appreciated. It really is good music. I read somewhere that a critic of the overture said "the music never really takes wing and sings". Sure it does. Just listen to the horns and strings i...

"To Life" from the musical "Fiddler on the Roof". I love the lively feel of this particular song. All the music from "Fiddler on the Roof" is truly exceptional. L'chaim!

Re: Problems with the Music World
I agree with much of what is being said, and while I do believe that competition breeds excellence, there is a point where it goes too far. Musicians should always strive to become better and hone their musical skills, and it is only natural for musicians to "compete" amongst themselves to...

Re: Solo beginnings
Actually I was just mentioning it because I couldn't think of a piece that began with a solo. But yeah, near the beginning works too. Pieces With Solo Near Beginning October (oboe) by Eric Whitacre Scotch Strathspey and Reel (clarinet) by Percy Grainger The Duke of Marlborough Fanfare (horn) by Perc...

Advertising IMSLP on your website
Just posting to say that I began hosting a website using freewebs, and that since it has to do with music I'm also using it to advertise IMSLP to any and all of its visitors and members. I encourage anybody else who hosts their own website to do the same to help spread the word about IMSLP. The addr...

Re: Solo beginnings
I don't know if this really counts, but Strauss' "Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks" has an extended horn solo very close to the beginnning (it's the 6th bar in not counting the pickup measure). Again, not sure if it really counts.

English Folk Song Suite - Vaughan Williams
Does anybody have the score and/or parts for Ralph Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite? If so, could you please post it in the library? I know he's not under copyright because a lot of his music is already available for download. The suite would be a great addition to Petrucci.

Procession of Nobles - Rimsky Korsakov
Does anyone know if Korsakov's "Procession of Nobles" is in the public domain? If it is it would be a fantastic addition to the Petrucci Music Library and the IMSLP community. Such a wonderful work.
If anyone has access to a score and/or parts please post it!
