Re: Is a continuo realization an arrangement?
I don't know about "should"—I, like almost every other harpsichordist, absolutely despise reading from scores with realizations.

Re: Is a continuo realization an arrangement?
It's my opinion that a continuo realization written into a score is basically an attempt to record what would otherwise be an improvisation—although very few of the realizations printed in any score are remotely worthwhile, it's closer to an original composition when done correctly, and thus even th...

Re: Finding scores at IMSLP
To be honest, I think that the existing team has a fair enough number of people with expertise in each area to function—for now.
The rate at which IMSLP is expanding is the key to how we structure this sort of thing, and that rate isn't particularly high right now.

Re: De in composer names
Yeah, that solution would be great (viz. Dufay and Desprez, but that's a little bit more complicated)

De in composer names
I'm starting to wonder about this one—in the case of D'Indy and D'Anglebert, they are always referred to with "D'"—shouldn't we reflect that? This also goes for De Pablo, if he decides to put his works up here. The Renaissance is a little trickier because of the differing conventions—the o...

Re: Revueltas
Well, with that, they're two of the same numbering system (in name, at least), as opposed to two different systems entirely.

Re: Revueltas
I think we need to use Lesure numbers for the same reason that we're not using Wolff's new numbers for Bach—CD is not mainstream yet.
Eventually, I think Debussy and Bach are going to turn into what we have for C.P.E. Bach—two numbering systems.

There's an interesting recording of Szell's last concert (Tokyo, 1970)—Berlios, Mozart, Sibelius, Weber. It's very good.

Is anyone else using this yet? What do people think?
I personally like it—good sound quality—but I don't like how it selects songs from my library (i.e. only 4 tracks of each album) to fit within 20,000 songs.

Re: Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565 - Bach
Complicated question! I think that scholars agree that this is not a work written for organ by Bach—stylistically, the harmonies are those that he only used starting in the 1730s, and the techniques (parallel octaves!) are unusual. I like the theory that this is a work of Bach, but for Violin (actua...

Re: Revueltas
If we can do this, can we please add the Lesure numbers for Debussy, etc.? I don't see any reason not to.
Excellent work, Nick.
