[PLEASE NOTE] Copyright extension in Canada

Please note that Canada has amended its copyright laws. Since the IMSLP servers are based in Canada, this is relevant to uploaders and users. All works by people who died in 1971 or earlier are in the public domain and remain in the public domain. All works by people who died in 1972 or later now re...

Re: Announcement: Red Links Project

Thanks Feduol. Phase 2 will be helped a lot by automation, don't worry. The details of the bot are something I'll get into more in the future. There will definitely be manual work to do, but a lot can be done at least semi-automatically by matching plain text with existing categories (and asking for...

Announcement: Red Links Project

Hello, Today we are announcing the launch of the IMSLP Red Links Project . We currently require all contributors to works (arrangers, librettists, etc.) to be properly linked on pages when new submissions are made. But many pages on IMSLP have older edits where this is not the case, and where people...

Re: Folk song sight singing series

William Gillies Whittaker (1876-1944) is definitely public domain. The other two I can't quite track down at the moment. I can look more later. But I can't find any publications after the 1930s or so from them so I would mark it as checked (so it'd be OK as PD-Canada, unless it were demonstrated oth...

Re: Improper Names Displayed on Composer Pages

It was a very momentary glitch when I was making a change. I corrected it immediately.

Re: NAFTA negotiations could lead to stricter copyright rules in Canada

Well we got some unfortunate bad news (its not all bad but going forward, were no longer going to be using the Canadian Server as the main location), the Canadian Parliament just passed there 2023 budget and included is the extension to Life + 70, but fortunately this only affects future composer's...

Re: Last Sorabji piece of the year

I understand that changes in Canadian copyright legislation are due and, if implemented, Canada will likewise be subject to the increasingly prevalent 70-year term that already applies in the majority of countries. That is true of Canadian copyright law. But the US copyright on 1927 publications wi...

Re: Shostakovich

You've just answered your own question — if what you've said is accurate, then yes, this early work is PD-US.

Re: Sorabji quintet

To be clear, Sallen112, a new edition today would likely not actually qualify for US copyright if it ended up in court: see http://www.rbs2.com/cmusic2.pdf. However, because the copyright office in the US will register whatever you send them for a copyright, we wouldn't accept a new edition as we do...

Re: Sorabji quintet

I'm an IMSLP copyright reviewer. In this case, it's very simple. US copyright law applies to works, not to specific copies of works. A handwritten manuscript and a published edition which contain the same material are copies of the same work, according to US copyright law. This work was published in...

Protected Page Editing Request: Requiem in D minor, K.626 (Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus)

I would like to edit https://imslp.org/wiki/Requiem_in_D_min ... g_Amadeus), but the page is locked down at the moment, so I'm unable to add a new score of the Amen fugue fragment and some PD-EU sound recordings. Thanks for the help!

[newly acquired] Early Italian songs and airs, Volumes I and II, ed. Pietro Floridia --- suggest pieces to scan

Hey guys, Just wanted to announce that I have recently gotten my hands on two volumes of Italian songs edited by Pietro Floridia. Floridia notes that he has redone all accompaniment for piano. The first of the two volumes was published in 1923, and would seem to be copyrighted in the U.S., due to a ...
